Johannesburg!!!!

Yesterday we arrived in Johannesburg at about 5:30pm after a long 17 hours of flight time, including a lovely stop in Dakar, Senegal at 5am. We are staying at a really nice guest house called St. Peters Place in Rotensville which is part of Johannesburg. Johannesburg is a huge city, we are staying in South East Jo-burg. This area used to be a predominately white area but the neighborhood is changing a lot.
One thing I learned very quickly is that greetings are very important here. I was scolded at the airport for asking where the atms' were without first saying hello and asking how the person was. It is kind of nice because its a way of connecting more and taking the time to slow down and say hello, that you don't often find in the US.

Today we went to Soweto, and tomorrow we will be in Soweto as well, so I will continue to write and post again either in 3 days or after the weekend home stays, when I will write about my experience today and tomorrow and post my pictures as well, because the internet is very slow here, so posting pictures isn't completely possible.

  1. Did you say hello to Dakar for me?? I'm so jealous! And about the greetings...I miss that so much! Having to say hello and how are you to everyone you see makes everyone happier I think. Miss you Cass!
